Holiness Is Not Hardness
Scripture
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. - John 3:17 NIV
Devotional
Holiness is beautiful. It is the life of God shaping us from the inside out. But holiness was never meant to make us harsh, proud, or unapproachable.
Jesus was perfectly holy, yet sinners were drawn to Him. The broken came near. The rejected found mercy. The ashamed found restoration. His holiness did not push away the wounded; it exposed sin while offering salvation.
Sometimes people confuse conviction with condemnation. Conviction says, “Come home.” Condemnation says, “You are too far gone.” Conviction leads to repentance. Condemnation leads to hiding.
The church should never lower the truth of the gospel, but neither should it raise man-made barriers that Jesus never required. The message is not, “Clean yourself up and then come.” The message is, “Come to Jesus, and He will make you new.”
Grace is not permission to stay bound. Grace is the power to be free.

Reflection
- Have you ever confused holiness with hardness?
- How can you hold firmly to truth while still extending compassion?
- Ask God to give you both conviction and tenderness.
