Remember Who You Are
Scripture
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. - James 1:22–24 NLT
Devotional
It is possible to hear truth and still forget who we are. We can sit under the Word, sing songs of faith, and know the right language, yet walk away unchanged. James compares this to looking in a mirror and immediately forgetting our reflection.
God’s Word is a mirror. It shows us our need, our sin, our calling, and our identity in Christ. But the purpose of the mirror is not just awareness; it is transformation.
The world constantly tries to rename us. Failure. Addict. Divorced. Unworthy. Too far gone. Not enough. But God speaks a better word. In Christ, you are forgiven, chosen, redeemed, loved, and called.
Do not let life, shame, religion, or people place a false identity on you. Look into the Word and remember who you are.

- What false labels have you believed about yourself?
- What does God’s Word say about your identity?
- Choose one biblical truth about who you are in Christ and speak it out loud today.
