Take Up Your Cross Daily

Scripture

Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. — Luke 14:27 ESV

Devotional

The cross is not a decoration. It is a place of death.

To carry your cross means dying daily to sin, selfishness, pride, and the old life. It means choosing Jesus when your flesh wants comfort. It means forgiving when bitterness feels justified. It means obedience when compromise seems easier. It means faithfulness when no one applauds.

The cross is heavy at times. There will be days when following Jesus feels costly. Relationships may change. Priorities may shift. Old desires may resist. Spiritual warfare may increase.

But Jesus never calls us to carry the cross alone. He gives us the Holy Spirit, our Comforter and Helper. The Spirit strengthens us to endure, empowers us to obey, and reminds us that suffering with Christ is never wasted.

A cross-carrier is not a casual believer. A cross-carrier is someone who has decided Jesus is worth everything.

Reflection

What part of your old life still needs to be crucified?
Where do you need the Holy Spirit’s strength to obey?
How can you intentionally take up your cross today?
