Count the Cost

Scripture

“But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?" — Luke 14:28 NLT

Devotional

Following Jesus is free, but it will cost you everything.

Salvation is a gift of grace. We cannot earn it. We cannot buy it. We cannot deserve it. But discipleship requires surrender. Jesus never presented following Him as a casual addition to an already busy life. He called people to die to themselves, take up their cross, and follow.

Many want the comfort of Christianity without the cost of discipleship. But Jesus calls us deeper than attendance, deeper than routine, deeper than religious habits. He calls us into a life where He becomes Lord over everything.

Before building, count the cost. Before saying yes, understand that Jesus wants your whole life, not just your Sundays. He wants your time, your desires, your relationships, your decisions, your home, your words, your priorities, and your future.

The cost is great, but the reward is eternal.

Reflection

Have you counted the cost of following Jesus?
Are there places where you have wanted Jesus as Savior but resisted Him as Lord?
What does full surrender look like in your daily life?
