Eternal Things Matter Most

Scripture

As Jesus was starting out on his way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” — Mark 10:17

Devotional

Life is not random. Your days matter. Your choices matter. Your worship matters. Your obedience matters.

The rich young ruler came to Jesus asking the right question: “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” He understood that eternity was important, but he did not yet understand that following Jesus would require surrender.

It is easy to get consumed with temporary things: schedules, bills, reputation, possessions, entertainment, comfort, and success. But everything in this life is passing away. Eternity is not.

Jesus calls us to live with eternal awareness. Church attendance, religious language, and moral behavior are not substitutes for a surrendered heart. The goal is not simply to appear spiritual. The goal is to belong fully to Christ.

There is no neutral ground when it comes to following Jesus. We are called to choose whom we will serve.

Reflection

What temporary things have been receiving too much of your attention?
Are you living with eternity in mind?
If Jesus asked for full surrender today, what area would be hardest to release?
