Only Believe

Scripture

While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” - Mark 5:35-36 NIV

Devotional

The worst possible news reached Jairus: “Your daughter is dead.”

To everyone else, that meant the journey was over. The request was too late. The hope was gone. But Jesus spoke a different word: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

Fear often speaks loudly when circumstances get worse. Fear says, “It’s too late.” Fear says, “God missed the moment.” Fear says, “There is no reason to keep praying.”

But Jesus calls us beyond fear and into faith.

Faith is not denial. Jairus’ daughter really had died. The situation was truly impossible. But faith says that even the impossible is not beyond the authority of Jesus.

There are moments when your faith must stretch beyond what you originally believed for. Jairus first believed Jesus could heal sickness. Now he had to believe Jesus had power over death.

Sometimes God allows our faith to grow through circumstances that exceed our understanding. The question becomes: Will we still trust Him when the situation looks worse than before?

Jesus’ word still stands: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

Reflection

What fear is trying to overpower your faith right now?
Is God asking you to trust Him beyond what you can understand?
Repeat this prayer today: “Lord, I choose faith over fear. Help me only believe.”
