Return to the Father’s House

Scripture

"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.'"
— Luke 15:17-18 NIV

Devotional

The prodigal son did not begin his journey home when he arrived at the house. He began his journey home when he came to himself.

There are moments when God allows us to see clearly where our choices have taken us. The prodigal found himself empty, lonely, and longing for what even pigs were eating. Yet in that low place, he remembered his father’s house.

Sometimes revival begins with remembering. Remembering the peace you once had. Remembering the joy of forgiveness. Remembering the nearness of God. Remembering the place where your heart first came alive.

The father did not greet the son with rejection, but with compassion. The son returned rehearsing a servant’s speech, but the father restored him as family. That is the heart of God toward the repentant.

No matter how far you have gone, you can return. The Father’s house is still open.

Reflection

Is there an area of your life where you need to “come to yourself”?
What do you need to leave behind in order to return fully to the Father?
Pray: “Father, I am coming home. Restore my heart and draw me close again.”
