Fan the Flame

Scripture

For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
— 2 Timothy 1:6 NASB

Devotional

Faith must be tended. Fire does not stay strong by accident. It must be fed, protected, and stirred.

Paul reminded Timothy to fan into flame the gift of God within him. Timothy already had something from God, but he needed to stir it again. The same can be true for us. We may still believe, still attend, still serve, and still know the right words, yet inwardly the flame may be low.

Fanning the flame may look like returning to prayer. It may mean worshiping when you do not feel like it. It may mean confessing sin, forgiving someone, fasting, seeking godly community, or stepping back into obedience. Spiritual passion often returns through intentional action.

Do not wait for feelings before you pursue God. Pursue God, and let your heart catch up. The flame is not gone simply because it is small. Bring it to the breath of the Holy Spirit again.

Reflection

What spiritual gift, passion, or calling needs to be stirred in you again?
What is one intentional step you can take today to fan the flame?
Pray: “Holy Spirit, breathe on the fire within me. Stir up what You have placed in my life.”
