Tear Down the Walls
Scripture
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” - Psalm 139:23-24 NLT
Devotional
Sometimes what we call protection is actually isolation. We build walls after disappointment, betrayal, grief, or exhaustion. At first, those walls may feel safe. They keep people from getting too close. They keep us from being vulnerable. They help us avoid the risk of being hurt again. But walls do more than keep pain out—they often keep healing out too.
God does not ask us to live exposed to every harmful thing, but He does call us to live surrendered, open, and led by Him. There is a difference between healthy boundaries and hardened walls. Boundaries are led by wisdom. Walls are often led by fear.
When we invite God to search our hearts, we are asking Him to reveal the places where self-protection has become self-imprisonment. We are asking Him to show us where anxiety, unforgiveness, pride, or fear has taken root. God does not expose these places to shame us. He reveals them so He can heal them.
Reflection
Have I built walls and called them boundaries?
What pain or fear might be keeping me from meaningful connection?
Pray: “Lord, search my heart and show me what needs to come down.”
