Beware of Distractions

Scripture

“Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses  surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance  the race that lies before us” — Hebrews 12:1 CSB

Devotion

Distractions are not always sinful at first. Sometimes they are simply things that pull our attention away from what matters most. Pastor Darren reminded us how easily our focus can shift in a busy, noisy world.

We jump from one thing to another. Our minds are full. Our calendars are crowded. Our emotions are stretched. Before long, we realize we have drifted away from prayer, worship, Scripture, community, and intimacy with Jesus.

The enemy does not always have to destroy us. Sometimes he only has to distract us.
That is why Hebrews tells us to throw off what hinders. Some things are not helping you carry your cross. Some habits are not feeding your faith. Some voices are not leading you closer to Jesus.

Following Christ requires focus. Keep your eyes on Him.

Reflection

What distraction has been pulling your attention away from Jesus?
What is one thing you need to “throw off” this week?
