Pick Up Your Cross
Scripture
“Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” — Matthew 10:38 NIV
Devotion
The cross is not a symbol of convenience. It is a symbol of surrender, sacrifice, obedience, and death to self. Pastor Darren pointed out that carrying the cross takes energy, determination, stamina, and perseverance.
Sometimes we want Christianity to make life easier immediately. We come to the altar, we meet with God, and we expect the rest of life to smooth out. But Jesus never promised that following Him would be easy. He promised that He would be with us.
Your cross may look like faithfulness in a hard marriage, patience in parenting, integrity at work, obedience when you are misunderstood, forgiveness when you are hurt, or endurance when you are tired. The cross is heavy, but it is holy. And you are not carrying it alone.
Reflection
What cross has God asked you to carry in this season?
Ask Him for strength to carry it faithfully today.
