Making Room
Scripture
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
— Romans 12:2a (NASB)
Devotion
In Pastor Darren’s story, when he laid down chewing tobacco, alcohol, and the old lifestyle, he didn’t just leave empty space. He filled that space with the Word, prayer, and worship. He changed how he drove, what stores he went to, what he listened to, what he did in those “old” moments of temptation.
Holiness is not just subtraction; it’s replacement. You don’t just remove the world’s influence—you actively invite God’s influence. You don’t just “stop doing bad things,” you start feeding your spirit: Scripture instead of endless scrolling, worship instead of background noise, silence with God instead of constant podcasts.
Pastor Darren even spoke about our device-bound culture: phones, watches, earbuds, alerts. These things keep us constantly connected, but also deeply disconnected from God’s voice. Making room may mean turning some of that off so your heart can tune in to the Spirit again.
Transformation happens as your mind is renewed. That requires space—room—for God to speak, convict, encourage, and redirect.

Reflection
- What do you reach for by default—phone, TV, music, social media—when you feel bored, stressed, or lonely?
- Where can you intentionally “make room” for God this week? (e.g., 15 minutes of silence, a drive with no radio, a set Bible-reading time, or a worship playlist instead of another podcast.)
- Decide one concrete replacement: “Instead of ______, I will spend that time with God in ______.”
