Renewing Your Mind

Scripture

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
— Romans 12:2a (ESV)

Devotion

Pastor emphasized that having a sound mind is not automatic; it takes work. Paul tells us the path to transformation is the renewing of your mind.

The world—and your past—have programmed your mind with:
  • Fear-based thinking
  • Shame-based thinking
  • Performance-based thinking
  • Hopeless thinking

If you never intentionally renew your mind, you’ll continue to live from those scripts, even while sitting in church and raising your hands.

Renewing your mind is:
  • Exposing your thoughts to God’s Word regularly.
  • Challenging lies with Scripture.
  • Refusing to nurse old narratives that keep you bound.
  • Letting the Spirit rewrite how you see God, yourself, and others.

Pastor Darren asked bluntly: Who actually read their Bible this week? Who carved out time for God? His point wasn’t shame—it was reality. If you don’t look at the map, how will you get where you’re going?

A sound mind doesn’t grow from:
Occasional emotional altar moments alone.
Sporadic church attendance.

It grows from a daily, deliberate agreement with God’s Word over your own understanding.

Reflection

1. How consistent is your time in Scripture right now—truly? (Daily, weekly, rarely?)
2. Identify one specific recurring thought that needs renewing (for example: “I’ll always be this way”). Find one verse that contradicts it and write them side by side.
3. Pray: “Lord, I confess I have neglected the renewing of my mind. Give me a desire and discipline to be in Your Word. I submit my thought life to You and invite Your truth to reshape me.”
