Your Simple Prayer: “Lord, Let Me Leave Different”

Scripture

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
— Romans 12:2 (ESV)

Devotion

This weeks sermon began with a simple but dangerous prayer: “Lord, let me leave different.” That’s not religious filler; that’s an invitation for God to interrupt your normal.

We often come to church (or into our quiet time) worn out, distracted, dragging ourselves in like Pastor Darren described—battle-scarred, discouraged, just “showing up.” Yet God doesn’t invite us just to attend; He invites us to be transformed.

Transformation rarely starts with some grand spiritual performance. It starts with honest surrender. When you ask, “Lord, let me leave different,” you invite God to confront attitudes, habits, fears, and comforts that are keeping you in the same cycles. You give Him permission to dig, to level ground, to “prepare the way” in your heart.

This is the groundwork of the “bridge” the sermon keeps referring to: God clearing the rubble inside you so He can build something new—one brick at a time.

Reflection

  • When was the last time you sincerely asked God to change you, not just your situation?
  • Where in your life do you feel stuck in the same spiritual patterns or emotions?
  • Pray slowly and specifically:
    • “Lord, I don’t want to just attend another service/devotional. Let me leave this time with You different. Show me where You want to begin.”
