What Will You Do With the Jesus Inside You?

Scripture

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."– Matthew 5:14 (ESV)

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." – Matthew 5:16 (ESV)

Devotion

Pastor Darren ended with a piercing question:
“What will you do with the Jesus inside you?”

If you belong to Christ, His Spirit lives in you (Romans 8:9–11). The question is not whether Jesus is in you—it’s what you’ll allow Him to do through you.

Will you:
  • Keep Him safely hidden behind religious routines and church walls?
  • Reduce Him to Sunday mornings and private comfort?
  • Keep passing by the “homeless man at the stop sign,” assuming the worst, never reflecting His compassion?

Or will you:
  • Let Him change your eyes so you can truly see people?
  • Let Him soften your heart toward the broken, the messy, the inconvenient?
  • Let Him move your feet and hands to serve, give, and speak?

You are not called to be a silent container of Jesus. You are called to be a lamp—visible, useful, shining, not for your own glory but for His.

The stigma of the church will not change primarily through new branding, social media, or strategies. It will change when ordinary believers carry an extraordinary Savior into ordinary spaces—homes, workplaces, restaurants, sidewalks, prisons, shelters, neighborhoods.

A thief on a cross met Jesus through Jesus Himself. Today, many will only meet Him through you.

Reflection

  • In what area of your life have you most kept “the Jesus inside you” hidden (work, family, friendships, social media, finances)?
  • What scares you most about living more openly for Christ? Bring that fear to Him in honesty.
  • Identify one specific action you will take this week to let Jesus shine through you (sharing your testimony, serving someone in need, reconciling with someone, inviting someone to church, giving generously, etc.).

Prayer

Jesus,
You live in me. Forgive me for every way I’ve kept You hidden—out of fear, pride, or comfort. I offer myself to You again: my eyes, my mouth, my hands, my time, my resources. Use me as Your light in dark places. Let the way I live help tear down the stigma around Your church and reveal Your true heart to the world. Show me clearly what step You want me to take this week, and give me the courage to obey. In Your powerful name I pray, amen.
