Living Water for Dry Souls

Scripture

“Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.’”
— John 4:13–14 (NKJV)

Devotion

The woman came to draw physical water from a physical well. Jesus offered water that would satisfy a deeper thirst. This weeks sermon talked about “scaly,” “ashy” Christians—dried out, parched, spiritually cracked. You can serve, attend church, and even lead, yet be dry inside.

Your heart was not made to live on yesterday’s drink. Religion without relationship leaves you thirsty. Activity without intimacy drains you. Jesus promised not only to satisfy your thirst but to put a fountain inside you—His Spirit, His presence, His life, continually springing up.

If you feel dry, that’s not a sign to hide; it’s a sign to come. You are exactly the kind of person the Well is for.

Reflection

  • On a scale from 1–10, how “dry” or “filled” do you feel spiritually right now? Why?
  • What “wells” have you been drinking from lately (work, entertainment, relationships, substances, performance) that still leave you empty?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I admit I am thirsty. I confess I’ve tried to satisfy my heart with lesser wells. I come to You for living water. Fill me with Your Spirit. Let Your life become a fountain in me—refreshing, cleansing, and overflowing. Restore my joy, my tenderness, and my love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
