Remembering Your Giants

Scripture

The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you.”
— 1 Samuel 17:37 (NIV)

Devotion

This weeks sermon began with David walking onto the battlefield as a young shepherd boy. He remembered the lion and the bear, and because of that memory, he had courage for Goliath. His past victories in God became fuel for his present battle.

You have your own “lion and bear” stories—times God came through, protected you, saved you, or changed you. But when a new giant shows up—health, finances, addiction, fear, broken relationships—it’s easy to forget what God has already done and only see how “big” the present problem looks.

Remember: a giant doesn’t have to be enormous; it just has to be over you. Anything that “lords over” your thoughts, robs your peace, or dictates your choices can function as a Goliath. But the same God who helped you before is the same God standing with you now.

Reflection

  • What are 2–3 “lion and bear” moments where you know God helped you?
  • What is your present “giant”? How does remembering those past victories change how you see this current battle?

Prayer

Lord, remind me of what You have already done in my life. Bring to my mind every “lion and bear” You delivered me from. Help me face today’s giant not with my strength, but with confidence in Your faithfulness. I declare that the same God who rescued me then is with me now. In Jesus’ name, amen.
