Fear, Anxiety, and the Fast-Paced Life
Scripture
“Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
– 1 Peter 5:7 (NASB)
Devotion
Pastor Darren named what many of us quietly carry: fear and anxiety. Fear of bad news, financial collapse, sickness, rejection, failure. Anxiety that comes from calendars piled high, constant comparison on social media, and the pressure to keep up with everyone else’s highlight reel.
We weren’t built for this pace, and we certainly weren’t meant to carry these burdens alone. God already gave us a simple, profound instruction: “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” That’s not a cliché; it’s an invitation.
To “cast” is to throw something off of yourself and onto someone stronger. It’s a decisive act:
“I am not going to keep hugging this fear to my chest. I’m putting it in Your hands, Lord.”
Jesus is not indifferent to what keeps you up at night. He sees the doctor’s report, the bank statement, the difficult child, the strained marriage, the unknown future. And He says: Give it to Me. Let Me carry what you cannot.
In seasons of waiting, fear tries to paralyze you and anxiety tries to consume you. Casting your cares is how you refuse to stall spiritually—how you keep walking, even with trembling legs, knowing He cares and He carries.
Reflection
Prayer
Father, You see the fears and anxieties that I carry. Today I choose to cast them on You. I hand You my specific worries about ___________ (name them). I believe that You care for me and that You are not overwhelmed by what overwhelms me. Replace my fear with trust, my anxiety with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection
- What specific fears or anxieties have been dominating your thoughts lately? Name them.
- When worry hits, what’s your first instinct—scroll, distract, overwork, or turn to God?
- How can you practically “cast” your cares on Him today (prayer, journaling, talking with a mature believer, etc.)?
