Waiting with the Holy Spirit
Scripture
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever…
But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you.”
– John 14:16; 16:7 (NASB)
Devotion
This weeks sermon reminded us that Jesus didn’t leave us to “wait it out” alone. He said it was actually better for Him to go so the Holy Spirit could come. The Spirit is called Helper, Counselor, Comforter—He is the “power end of the stick,” the One who takes ordinary people and enables them to do extraordinary things.
In seasons of waiting, we often lean on our own understanding, our own emotions, our own planning. But Jesus invites us into a life filled and led by the Spirit. That means you were never meant to muscle through anxiety, grief, confusion, temptation, or calling on your own.
The Holy Spirit enables you to:
The question from the sermon was sharp: “Have you been saved? Sanctified? Are you seeking a relationship with the Holy Spirit?” Waiting well is impossible without Him.
Reflection
Prayer
Holy Spirit, I need You. Forgive me for trying to live, wait, and move forward in my own power. I invite You to fill me afresh, to guide my choices, to give me wisdom, and to strengthen me where I am weak. Teach me to listen for Your voice and to follow Your leading, especially in the waiting. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Holy Spirit enables you to:
- Keep moving forward when you want to quit.
- Love people when you’d rather avoid them.
- Worship when you feel nothing.
- Obey when it’s costly.
- Wait patiently when everything in you wants to rush.
The question from the sermon was sharp: “Have you been saved? Sanctified? Are you seeking a relationship with the Holy Spirit?” Waiting well is impossible without Him.
Reflection
- How aware are you—day to day—that the Holy Spirit lives in you (if you’re in Christ)?
- In what area of your life do you most need the Spirit’s help right now?
- Are you actively asking Him to fill, lead, and renew you—or mostly ignoring His presence?
