Making It All the Way Home

Scripture

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7 (NKJV)
“But he who endures to the end shall be saved.”
— Matthew 24:13 (NKJV)

Devotion

At the end of the sermon, Pastor Darren talked about people who had “made it”—saints who lived and died in faith: the janitor who loved God, the grandmother who showed Christ’s love, the faithful church member who testified year after year. They weren’t famous, but they finished well.

There are only two eternal outcomes: heaven or hell. Both are “made it” destinations—just in opposite directions. That’s sobering. The rich man in Jesus’ parable “made it” to torment, longing for a drop of water. Lazarus “made it” to comfort in Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16:19–31). Our choices now are leading us toward one destination or the other.

Enoch “was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24). Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego found a fourth man in the fire. Daniel slept on a lion like a pillow. Joseph moved from pit to palace. Samson, David, Paul—flawed but repentant—finished as men of faith.

What will be said of you? Making it is not about a trouble-free life; it’s about a faithful life. It’s about ending like Paul: “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” The sermon challenged us to live with urgency: Jesus is coming back, and He’s not coming to “take names and play games,” but to judge and to reign.

You can make it—if you keep your eyes on Jesus, repent when you fall, walk in holiness, and refuse to quit. Don’t just want a momentary spiritual high; desire a lifetime of faithfulness that ends in hearing, “Well done.”

Reflection

  1. If your life ended today, which direction would you have “made it” toward—heaven or hell? Be honest before God.
  2. Are there areas where you need to repent and “move forward” toward Christ—sin to lay down, habits to change, Lordship to surrender?
  3. Whose example of faithfulness (like those mentioned in the sermon) inspires you to finish well?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I want to make it all the way home. I don’t want to just start well; I want to finish well. I repent of living casually about eternity. Search my heart, show me any area that is not surrendered to You, and give me the grace to turn from it. Strengthen me to fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith. When my time comes, let it be said that I made it by Your grace. In Your mighty name, Amen.
